Synopsis

A single piece of jewellery holds the story of generations. Ruth was barely a teenager when her mother passed down a Medallion etched with the golden portrait of Nefertiti. Together, they go back to Ethiopia and explore her mother’s story as a survivor of the Red Terror genocide. Amidst a new civil war, the two revisit a country bursting with history and culture.

Ruth Hunduma:
Ruth Hunduma is an Ethiopian-Australian writer, director, photographer, actor, and poet. She received the John Hay Lobban Prize in English Literature from Birkbeck, University of London, and has been featured in Dazed and Perfect Magazine. Ruth won the 2022 Roundhouse Film Fund and the 2022 BFI Short Documentary Fund, releasing two films. Her debut narrative film, "A Band Apart", premiered at the London Independent Film Festival and won Best Short Film (Directors UK Award). Her debut documentary, "The Medallion", debuted on the festival circuit this summer. Based in London.
