When imagination and understanding can freely harmonize, it could happen, on purpose or by accident: an idea forms. In this short film found footage, sounds, and words, all retrieved from archives, are brought together to playfully explore the relatedness between these seemingly random finds.
About the director(s):
Joysi Olijhoek (1999, The Netherlands) is a young filmmaker who’s journey into filmmaking is marked by a deep-rooted fascination with the past, collecting and combining. She graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2023. Joysi feels at home behind the editing table but also has a great love for observing and capturing everyday life. In her first short film Where Do Ideas Come From?, selected for IFFR 2024, she merges her love for archives and her fascination with the ordinary into a playful exploration to the origin of the idea.
