György Kepes. Interthinking Art + Science
Back to listSynopsis
György Kepes, the visionary who coined the term "visual culture," is depicted in this film as a dynamic polymath and modernist pioneer. His influence extends beyond his roles as a designer, educator, and thinker, highlighting his groundbreaking contributions to the Art and Technology Movement. As a professor at the New Bauhaus in Chicago and the founder of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) at MIT, Kepes championed the integration of art and science, establishing himself as a precursor to new media art and the now widely adopted STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) framework. His commitment to "optical democracy" solidifies his place as one of the first artists to push the boundaries of human perception and foster ecological awareness. The film not only captures Kepes's captivating journey but also offers a rich narrative on the rise of new media art, providing an exciting glimpse into the creative forces that shaped the Mid-Century period.
