The time is 1920’s, martial art academies flourish in Tianjin. Owner of a martial art academy Master Shen leaves his shop to his top apprentice, Qi Quan, so that his son, Shen An, can take a bank job to gain upward mobility. A duel is arranged by his deathbed to have Shen defeated by Qi - to nip Shen’s martial arts dream in the bud. Shen refuses his defeat, martial art is dear to his heart. He requests the Chair of the wushu circle, Meng, to arrange another duel but is turned down bluntly. With no hope for a proper duel, Shen takes Qi to fight on the street - a serious mistake as apprentices should settle brawls inside their own walls.
