Director's bio:
Yoo Lee is a Korean-American writer and director specializing in stop-motion animation. After being a fashion designer for almost two decades, she decided to challenge herself by transitioning to stop-motion animation, a medium she fell in love with for telling the stories she wanted to tell. To facilitate this career change, Lee went back to school and received an MFA in Animation and Digital Design from the University of Southern California in 2023.
As a Project Involve Fellow and a recipient of the Laika Animation Grant in 2021, she wrote and directed an animated short, 7LBS 8OZ, which won the Grand Jury Award for Best Animated Short at the 30th annual Florida Film Festival in 2022, making it an Oscar qualifier for the 95th Oscars. 7LBS 8OZ is currently being distributed through the New Yorker Screening Room.
Accepted into the HBOMax | WarnerMedia Access Animated Short Program in its inaugural year, Lee wrote and directed Welcome to 8th Street in 2023, which is currently streaming on Max. The Nectar Instead, Lee’s thesis film from USC, has recently been selected for over 40 festivals around the world.
