Ibelin

Synopsis

The documentary film about the gamer Mats «Ibelin» Steen and the life he lived in the game «World of Warcraft».

Screenings

Mats died of a muscle disease at the age of just 25. The parents were grieving what they thought had been a lonely and isolated life for their son, when they suddenly began to receive messages from all over the world.

The film recreates the rich life of Mats' avatar «Ibelin» in the gaming world. Everything is based on real events and dialogues, taken from role-playing games in «World of Warcraft». In addition, we get to see archive footage and interviews with the friends Mats made through the game.

About the director:
Benjamin Ree has previously directed «Magnus» (2016) and «The Painter and the Thief» (2020). His films have been sold to more than 80 countries and won over 40 awards, including Sundance. «The Painter and the Thief» also won three Amanda awards in 2021, including the award for best film. «Ibelin» had its world premiere at Sundance in 2023.
