Synopsis

For 21-year-old Gena Marvin, the world is her catwalk, and she uses it for extravagant, radical and homemade activism. It could also cost her dearly.

Screenings

At the store, the subway or in the middle of the street. Wherever Gena goes, she attracts attention with stiletto heels, make-up and fierce headpieces. It is her silent protest against Russia’s harassment of queers. And judging by how many fists are thrown her way, it’s incredibly effective. 

«Queendom» follows Gena as she faces constant headwinds, whether it is from the university, the authorities or her own grandparents. She meets everyone with a calm and fearless mind, and impresses with her seemingly inexhaustible courage.

About the director:
Agniia Galdanova is a Russian filmmaker. In 2017, she co-directed the short film collection «Out of Place», which dealt with the feeling of being an outsider. «Queendom» is her feature-length documentary debut.
