Emily loves murder mysteries. She gets tattoos of serial killers and quotes «Silence of the Lambs» on a daily basis. Alongside her waitressing job, she runs the podcast «Mile Marker 181». Here she investigates the death of Jaleayah Davis, which the police ruled as an accident. The Davis’ family however claims it was a murder. 

Millions of listeners later, Emily is confronted with the uncomfortable question; Is the incident really as suspicious as the family believes it to be? 

«Citizen Sleuth» dissects pop culture’s fascination with true crime, and those who capitalize on other people’s tragedies. In addition, we become flies on the wall to Emily’s inner anguish as she bets everything on her dream job.

About the director:
Chris Kasick is an American director and producer. Among other things, he worked as a producer with «The Inventor» (2019) and as assistant director with «The Fog of War» (2003). «Citizen Sleuth» is his first documentary film as director, and the film had its world premiere during South by Southwest in 2023.
