Did you know that the world's biggest sporting event for women was held in the 1970s? This is the story of ground-breaking footballers that FIFA would rather have swept under the rug.
The first official Women's World Cup was held in 1991. It was the third attempt to bring together women's football, and the most successful was already in 1971 in Mexico. Six football teams from all around the world, two full stadiums and over 100,000 spectators. Why would it take twenty years until the next match?
«Copa 71» recounts the wild and emotional championship that has been written out of the history books. The directors have tracked down several of the women who took part, and they finally get to tell their side of the sport, sexism and success.
Talk before screening March 8:
Hater FIFA kvinner?
Panel:

About the director:
Rachel Ramsay and James Erskine are both British directors. Together they have made several sports-related films, such as «Le Mans 3D» (2017), «Sachin: A Billion Dreams» (2017) and «The End of the Storm» (2020). With these titles Ramsay has worked as a producer, so «Copa 71» is her directorial debut.
