Become a fly on the wall with the Taliban and observe the surreal everyday life that comes from taking over a country.

Screenings

The day after the US leaves Afghanistan, the Taliban raid the Hollywoodgate CIA base. Airplanes, helicopters, weapons and tons of military equipment have been left here. Incredibly, the filmmaker Imbrahim gets permission to follow the commander Malawi Mansour and captures the first year of the invasion, during which the Taliban suddenly transition from a guerrilla movement to a military regime.

«Hollywoodgate» is a documentary bordering on the absurd. While the Taliban are torturing civilians and restricting women's rights, they are also having discussions about the multiplication table and the need for more flowerbeds at the military base. This is a unique insight into the power play and propaganda strategy of important people in the Taliban.

Hva har skjedd i Afghanistan siden Talibans overtagelse?Filmene «The Takeover» og «Hollywoodgate» tar for seg ulike perspektiver på hva som skjedde under og etter Talibans gjenerobring av makten i 2022. Hva er situasjonen nå, og hva kan være veien videre?

Mellom visningene av de to filmene blir det samtale mellom regissør av «The Takeover» Anders Hammer, og Ragnhild Sørheim fra Afghanistankomiteen. 

Det blir servering av afghansk te og snacks.

About the director:
Ibrahim Nash'at is an Egyptian journalist and filmmaker based in Berlin. As a journalist, he has worked for, among others, Deutsche Welle and Al Jazeera. In addition to directing several short documentaries, he was also co-editor for Talal Derki's "Under the Sky of Damascus" (2023). «Hollywoodgate» is Nash'at's first feature-length documentary, and the film had its world premiere during the 2023 Venice Film Festival.
