The Sámi will finally get back part of their ancestral heritage, but can returned objects help cope with generational grief?
In recent years, the world of museums has been involved in debates about cultural diversity, colonialism, ownership and reconciliation. In 2021, the Finnish National Museum decided, as a pioneer, to return thousands of Sami objects of use. Sacred objects are still locked away in museums around Europe.
«Homecoming» is a deeply personal documentary that takes you behind the museum displays and on a visual, philosophical and spiritual journey. Filmmaker Suvi West deals with the Sami's bloody past and asks herself the question; How can one grant a common forgiveness and let go of collective trauma?
