In 1957, Dedan Kimathi, the leader of the Mau Mau rebellion, was executed by the British colonial government. In 1963, the country won its independence, but Dedan's body was never found. His daughter Wanjugu is now following in her mother's footsteps and trying to track down the remains of her father.

On the way, she meets war veterans, activists and families who have been chased from their homes. She also uncovers more secrets from the colonial era, which make her a threat to businesses and politicians who still profit from the aftermath of the British regime. «Our Land, Our Freedom» is a story of pain and hope in a post-colonial society.
