In recent years, two mine dams in Minas Gerais have collapsed, causing one of Brazil's biggest environmental disasters. Several hundred have died, two rivers have turned to mud and the sea filled with tidings; toxic waste material from iron ore mining. Both dams were assessed as safe by the state, and with 354 remaining dams, millions of lives are at stake.

«Rejeito» is a visually striking and provoking documentary that follows various individuals affected by the disaster. From Teca, who tries to hold the authorities and the multinational mining companies accountable via the state's environmental council, to João, who has been photographing the dam by his house for the past 20 years. If it bursts, 14,000 will be buried in seconds.
